Arcilo is a sculptural piece of design that uses candlelight to convey shifting shapes and patterns of illumination. It is a study in how light moves across a surface, the same broken shimmer you see along the edges of waves on a choppy sea at low sun.
The name Arcilo comes from the latin word ‘Arcus’ meaning curve and the Spanish word ‘Ilo’ meaning thread of light and warmth and is pronounced [ark - ih - low]
This project was created as part of Retail Therapy 11, a fourth year MEng Product Design Engineering course at the Glasgow School of Art and University of Glasgow. It was completed over a single semester alongside wider university studies and it provided an opportunity to explore form, material, and light in a self-directed context.
Arcilo is handmade entirely from steel, start to finish and comes with 2 Candles included in the box.
